A POSSIBLY REVOLUTIONARY NEW METHOD OF CARBON CAPTURE

If we are to ever slow down the accelerating negative effects of climate change / global warming most scientists of good faith believe Carbon Capture technologies are going to have to be developed and deployed to reabsorb and reprocess much of the present CO2 overhang. The average amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere are known to have been between 190 ppm to 280 ppm ( approx.) over at least the last 4-6 mil. years. The low pts. being in the middle of Ice Ages and the high levels of concentrations in inter-glacial warm periods like the one we're in now ( the Holocene epoch.) The problem now of course is we've added over 135 ppm above the 280 high average and considering that the Atmosphere and Climate system is known to be extraordinarily sensitive to these limits we are now on track for radical change to these systems.

A REVOLUTIONARY NEW METHOD OF CARBON CAPTURE

I've linked here to a radical new method of Carbon Capture that has been discovered and is in the process of being developed. Take a look at this article at Science News. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/10/191025170815.htm  This one method won't be enough by itself to slow and reverse the addition of this gas ( CO2) to the waste stream but it and other new materials and technologies hopefully once deployed will help us do that. We are still going to need to radically reduce the addition of all the various Greenhouse gases to achieve this goal of over this coming century but it's becoming increasingly within our reach technologically to do this. The sooner the better, because we are already causing various natural feedback loops in the system to kick in and these by themselves will cause trapped CO2 and CH4 ( Methane) to be released from areas of the planet like the Arctic Permafrost soils and frozen Methane ices ( Calcatartes) on the sea bottoms. Once these systems kick in the job will get harder and harder to contain and reverse the warming.
Nevertheless, this developing technology is good news for humanity. We need to incentivize these types of discoveries and techniques as soon as possible. On the flip side of this, we need to punish those that continue to believe we can endless drill and frack our way to some kind of viable future we can't. We will still need to switch to non-carbon sources of energy production even as we slowly start taking these gases out of the waste and energy streams. We can do this. The Ozone hole / Montreal treaty of the 1980s and subsequent slow reduction of the gases that caused it are proof positive that if humanity wants to do this it can and it most.

  1. Fascinating article - hopeful - it would require a tremendous commitment.

  2. How do we reconcile the dilemma of the planet of the apes we are living in at present with the advanced thinkers who can take us to a healthier and better tomorrow? Articles like this bring hope and joy to those who believe in the intelligence and creative advances that are possible and within our grasp. The disheartening truth is the grip of the back stroke population of miscreants
and the 'leadership' that holds them and us at odds with each other and the advancements relying on the finances held hostage by these backward archaic dinosaurs.

    1. Sadly, It might already be far too little and far too late. Let's hope for the best though it's all we have left now.
