America’s Unhappy 250th birthday

​I was going to put a standard Happy Birthday post here today but decided it would have been dishonest. The truth is America is definitely not a Happy Place on its 250th birthday for a great majority of its population. Having fought a successful Revolution against Monarchy and a Civil War to expand that Revolution by removing its cruel system of human slavery today we find ourselves in the hands of a reactionary regime headed by a would be Dictator supported by a cult of stupidity and incompetence. Worse yet the rest of us appear powerless to stop them. Where this is all headed is the big question? We are clinging precariously on the edge of the chasm of tyranny and oppression and I can’t honestly say we won’t plummet into it. Can you?

Built to attract potential buyers of real estate in what was then South Atlantic City. It was obviously wildly successful in that regard. If you’re visiting Absecon Island don’t miss her. Lucy is registered as a National monument.

I researched every attempt to stop fascism in history. The success rate is 0%. Once they win elections, it's already too late. In 1933, German conservatives thought they could control Hitler. Two years later, they were being executed in their own homes. I spent weeks researching this question, desperately looking for counter-examples, for hope, for any time in history where people successfully stopped fascists after they started winning elections. Here's what I found: Once fascists win power democratically, they have never been removed democratically. Not once. Ever. I know that sounds impossible.
