EARTH DAY- 56th

​56 years ago on the very 1st Earth Day I was a student at the University of California Irvine. On that Memorable day I had the honor to meet Ralph Nader one of the most famous Environmentalists of that era. He was the guest speaker that day. I barely recall what he had to say. But I do remember his statements about the dangers of automobiles to the environment specifically there deadly contributions to air & water pollution. He also mentioned it’s contributing to the eventual warming of the atmosphere by the massive amounts of greenhouse gases it was adding to it. The truth is scientists knew even before 1970 the facts of Global warming, even as far back as far as the early 19th century. Sadly, many of Ralph’s predictions that 1 st Earth Day are now coming true and we can only hope our children & grandchildren won’t judge my generation too harshly for our failures to mitigate the worst of those predictions.
